What Should New Patients Expect?
If you are a new to our Westminster asthma and allergy center, your initial visit will not only establish a relationship with your new asthma and allergy doctor, it will also allow us to discuss your symptoms, review your medical history, and conduct any necessary tests. To ensure your physician has everything they need to make an accurate diagnosis and create an effective treatment plan, you will need to arrive and bring in several completed forms 30 minutes before your visit. You can click the link below to view and print the required forms.
If you are unable to print the forms prior to your visit, we ask that you arrive 60 minutes before your appointment in order to complete the paperwork. This will allow you to have the maximum amount of time with your physician.
Preparing for Your Allergy or Food Challenge Test:
Medication containing antihistamines can cause false negatives on allergy tests. Be sure to avoid taking antihistamines for 3 days prior to your initial appointment or any scheduled tests. These medications include:
- OTC allergy medicines like Allegra®/Allegra -D®, Zyrtec®/Zyrtec-D®, and Claritin®/Claritin -D®
- Prescription allergy medicines such as Xyzal® and Clarinex®
- Some sleep aids. Check with your physician if you are unsure if your sleep aid contains antihistamines.
- OTC Benadryl® should be avoided at least 24 hours before your appointment
Cold medicines may also affect the accuracy of your test. Please do not take cold medicines for 3 days before any allergy testing.
